My name is Joy Boatman but most of my clients call me Dr. Joy. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist as well as a Life and Business Coach practicing in the historic neighborhood of South Park. I provide teens and adults with support for all of their life transition issue, such as death, divorce and deployment. I have extensive experience with trauma and address domestic violence and sexual assault issues to name a couple.
People often ask me what I do for my living, and when I tell them they almost always assume that it must be a very distressing job. But the reality is that I love my work. I have the privilege of seeing people make positive changes in their lives every day. I get to witness brave men, women and teenagers confront difficult and painful problems or situations. Through this relationship I watch them grow and become more confident, develop a stronger sense of themselves and come to terms with significant loss. I always feel excited and immensely privileged to be a part of that journey and applaud those who have the courage to look inward and realize how strong and resilient they truly are. I encourage my clients to welcome change through proactive, forward looking and at times playful experiences that leave them feeling powerful, positive, nurtured and accepted. So, no, I don’t find my work distressing, even as I empathize and feel with those who are struggling to find their way out of distressing situations.
Warmly,
Dr. Joy
